Expand Your Sense of What is Possible

Initial Consultation and Assessment:  The initial 90 minute session consists of an in-depth interview to determine the student’s strengths, short and long term goals, and current learning and study strategies.

Academic Coaching Sessions:  The coach and student work together for one 60-minute session per week.  New learning strategies will be discussed and practiced, strengths and obstacles from the past week are noted and used in planning for the upcoming week.  A focus of planning, motivation and reflection run through each session.   Many students continue throughout the entire semester and/or school year.  This allows students to reinforce new habits from learned strategies and make lasting change.  Each session will also include detailed handouts of the information covered in the session.

Plan for Future Success:  Weekly/monthly follow up sessions have proved to be invaluable especially when the student is in their first year of university or college.  Follow up services take advantage of technology so that students can continue to benefit when face-to-face contact is not possible.  Contact through e-mail, text messaging, Skype and phone are effectively used to problem solve, motivate, address challenges and work through change.

Skill Based Sessions:  The following is an example of some of the learning strategies that students may need to acquire to achieve their academic potential.

  • How to Be a Strategic Learner
  • Organising Your Time
  • Learning from Lectures
  • Learning from Textbooks
  • Effective Memory
  • Problem Solving and Critical Thinking
  • Researching and Writing Papers
  • Presentations and Seminars
  • Preparing and Writing of Exams
  • Managing the Stress of Being a Student
